Firefox 9.0a2 Aurora |
Download Firefox 9.0a2 Aurora | It’s worth noting that Aurora can be installed alongside the stable release of Firefox and run separately, so you can test drive in conjunction with a final release of Firefox rather than in place of it (as is the case with Chrome). However, there will be an add-ons compatibility check each time you switch versions, so bear this in mind.
According to the Mozilla blog, Aurora will be synchronised with the Nightly Build server every 5-6 weeks, which means it’s significantly less stable at the start of this period than at the end when its changes migrate into the Beta channel.
And what new features can you expect? Firefox 9 was supposed to sport a radically different user interface to previous versions, based on nightly builds released earlier in September. However, these changes are all missing in the first Aurora 9.0a2 build, and are also missing from the latest Nightly builds too.
These interface changes may reappear in a later build, but for now, the end result is an update that – far from being the most radical yet – is actually eclipsed by the previous version (Firefox 8), now in Beta. If you're interested in bleeding edge Firefox development, keep one eye on Mozilla's Burning Edge blog.
Note that there's no separate 64-bit build for Firefox Aurora.
