Google Chrome 14.0 |
Google Chrome 14.0.835.186, despite the anonymous version number, is a significant upgrade for the browser with a couple of major new features.
So what's new in Chrome Beta 14 worth getting excited about? Developers will be buoyed by the emergence of a built-in Native Client, which will allow them to build powerful web apps that combine code that's run locally (and securely through a double sandbox) in association with web-based code to provide improved online gaming, media and other intensive applications.
OS X Lion users will also remember Chrome 14 with fondness, for this is the first version to fully embrace optimisations like proper Lion scrollbars and support for fullscreen mode. Print Preview is now also available to Mac users, having debuted in an earlier Windows build.
Elsewhere, version 14 concentrates very much on beefing up the security and technology underpinning Chrome, so there’s a new Javascript rendering engine, for example, while security on secure (HTTPS) web pages is also being beefed up, with Google keen to put an end to sites using a mixture of secure and insecure elements on their pages due to inherent vulnerabilities.
